Devastation in Cumbria

Yesterday’s floods in Cumbria have left many shell-shocked and deeply saddened. The damage is even worse than the floods in 2009. Two of the worst affected areas are favourite places of mine: Braithwaite and Patterdale.

Braithwaite had at least one bridge washed away. Indeed, many bridges in the area have been destroyed, which will pose huge problems for months to come. Glenridding was almost completely flooded out. Many businesses and farms have suffered devastating, possibly terminal damage.

At times like this, the feeling of helplessness becomes overwhelming. However, there is something practical that everyone can do. You can give to the Cumbria Flood Appeal on their Just Giving page. Please be generous. Thanks.
