TGO Challenge 2013

Well, my entry form for the 2013 TGO Challenge has arrived safely at Deputy Dawg’s hideout. Hopefully this time I will finish! I’m not getting too excited as I won’t know until November whether my name has come out of the hat. I’m fairly certain of the route that I’ll do. If I don’t get in, I’ll do an alternative which I’ve mapped out in my mind. Meantime, it’s only eleven days until I go to Dartmoor, which I’m really looking forward to.

  1. I realise the social aspect of the Challenge is crucial, despite never having had the opportunity to take part, but their are many classic treks in the Highlands. They would only be second best from that social side of things. If great walking is enough, there is no reason to be disappointed if your name does not emerge from the hat. How about Durness to Fort Bill or a meandering hike from Ullapool to Cape Wrath, neither of which would impinge on Challenge resources. The Road to the Isles might. Early May would be a great time to be hiking the fabulous, Torridonian mountains and the wild pitches are amazing.

Having said that, I hope the draw favours you.

    1. It’s not the end of the world if not selected. I did like the social side. I’m thinking of a trek around the Monadhliath and Cairngorms as an alternative.

    1. Ivybridge to Okehampton then meet a couple of guys for a navigation course round north moor for weekend. Hope the weather stays calm.

  2. Sounds good, I’m guessing it’s pretty dry underfoot, it was at the OM meet a few weeks ago and I don’t think it’s rained much since.

  3. Yeah, good luck! My application will get posted on Friday once I’ve collected my mates page from work. Like you, if not selected we plan on doing the route anyway (or similar) as we have had to book the time off.

    Fingers crossed for all!
