Outlook improving

The weather forecast is improving each time I look. The forecast for next week is for reasonably settled weather with a high pressure to the north dominating. Of course, you have to take these with a pinch of salt. However, I’m tempted to adjust my clothing options accordingly by exchanging the Cascadas for some Lowe Alpine powerstretch tights and Berghaus Paclite overtrousers, reducing the weight by 25%  (600gms  vs. 442gms).

I reckon that lightweight, wind-resistant trousers plus waterproofs for when it rains are your best bet. If you’re worried about cold then maybe add some light thermals for camp. This is definitely the time of year for a versatile layering system - you’ll be roasting in Cascadas or powerstretch if the sun comes out. Just my 2cents worth.

I’m taking some Terra Pants anyway. The Cascadas are really a replacement for overtrouser plus leggings. I think they are the most comfortable legwear for wet weather. However, they are heavy and bulky, so like all these choices, it involves compromises. I’ll make my decsion on Sunday in the light of the weather forecast.

Ah ’scuse me .. I misunderstood .. you’ve got all the bases covered. This time of year is actually the toughest to get it right because conditions are so changeable. We’re just off to the Cairngorms ourselves for the weekend - gusts of 60mph on the tops and persistent rain on Sunday it says!!! while lucky you will get sunshine on Monday.

That’s right, it’s a little dificult to know what to take, but even if the weather forecast is good, to have to assume it may be wrong. If it was going to be an unsettled outlook, I’d definitely take the Cascadas, but if the weather is going to be mainly OK, they might be overkill.
